Post Re: Vehicles and Tribes Acsend
I dont think transports will ever be added. In fact I think the vehicles they have in now are just token vehicles, that are rather gimmicky hold overs from the older Tribes games.

The problem with transport vehicles is, who would use them? And why?

Neither TA maps, nor core TA ideology supports the use of vehicles really. Sometimes when I begin the game as a heavy, I will rush to my flag stand as quick as I can... but before I can reach it, if I start in one of the more retarded spawn locations (think arx novena, heavy starting on the hillside with the hill BLOCKING your way to base), guess what? Flag is stolen by a cowboy capper before I can even start sliding on the roof, who needs no assistance whatsoever from his/her team to get that flag and return it solo in anywhere from 15 to say, 45 seconds.

Those offensive heavies are right behind that PTH too, maybe 7 or 8 seconds behind.

The reason for troop transports in prior games was because distance was actually a meaningful dynamic in a map. Take Reversion from T2... from flag stand to flag stand, it was something like 1,734 meters, with some roads but mostly short peaks and hills inbetween. A light with an energy pack would take a couple minutes to hop around and get to the other base solo. A heavy would be hopelessly lost if they tried to walk to the other base; it would take them 6, 7 MINUTES... instead of the 6, 7 seconds that its takes players to get from one base to the other in TA as it stands.

Obviously, the Havok was invaluable on large maps like that with almost 2km between flags. Even shorter distances, the Havok was great to have around, and would easily fill with members when you announced "Havok ready", or whatever it was.

Im afraid that to justify troop transport vehicles, HR would need to drastically alter their vision of what TA should be, and then design new maps around that new vision... which I think would be great. But Im not holding out for it. Vehicles are an after thought in TA, at best.

Speaking of vehicles... why is there no first person POV except for the tank chain gunner seat?

Ive always preferred 1st person myself. Feels more immersive.

Not only immersive but it would be much better. I have had many occasions where the shrike was just plain in my view or that in the heat of the battle I hit an object that I didn't saw because of the shrike being in front of it.

HR did state last year that they wouldn't be adding more vehicles until the current ones were fixed and balanced out.

Since they haven't seriously pursued this in the last 6 months, its probably a safe bet to say you won't be seeing new ones this year.

personally i would love to have it back because it sucks when you get a shrike and some
doom bringer is camping with a saber launcher and you can't do anything about the missiles.

Because I had good cupcake 10 years ago, you claim I'm not allowed to compare it to cupcakes of today? That the cupcake I order today can have turd in it instead of sugar frosting and I'm not allowed to complain to manager because last one I had was 10 years ago and "things have changed"? :D

Just because something happened so long ago that some people couldnt even read yet doesnt mean there wasnt good ideas in it. It's those ideas that are the point of most "ahh the good old times" thinking, not the actual reality. Few people remember how much random crashes for no apparent reason T1/T2 used to have, yet since beta I've only managed to flip T:A max 10 times. However just because some things are better doesnt justify worsening some other things, when good ideas how to solve those things exist.

Instead of the havoc from T2, it might be better to have a 3-4 (possibly 2-3 depending on balance/ team size concerns) person aerial craft. Similar to the shrike, but with an expensive credit cost (Idk.. 7000-8000+) and more health. Let's say 5000, and with a much slower jet speed & boost. This vehicle would be available to heavies (possibly piloted exclusively by heavies) and would work similar to a floating grave bike (pilot incapable of attacking, but passengers are free to attack). This is an idea that I think would work in terms of a transport vehicle. But as others have said, the t2 havoc vehicle won't work since the maps are way too small, and to incorporate big enough maps to justify a t2 havoc vehicle would be against the direction this game has been/is heading.

Why every time someone says they liked something that was part if prequel, you immediately assume they want 1:1 clone of S:T / T2 / T:V? Man has a point - troop transporter would be fun!

You don't really need a Havoc to bombard the enemy base.

Just have two jugs and a TCN climb onto your shrike and wreak havoc(huehuehuehue). The TCN can shoot down sabres and repair the shrike from auto fire.
