Hello all.

This is ZcRaider, and this my first post on the forums. :o

I have a lot of things to say and concerns that need sharing. First and foremost a little about me:

I am 28 years old. Im a Computer Technician. I love to have fun, and promote sportsmanship. At least when im not ranting on cheaters....but eh im not perfect :P I have played MANY FPS games in general. Though I am some what new to the Tribes series, my exp with FPS goes way back! I have played many FPS games and i will highlight as many as i can currently remember in this post. However my talents as a gamer extend beyond just FPS games in general. Im very adept at fighters and sims too:

-Descent 1,2,3
-Quake 2,3,4 (Clan TGZ)(Freqented the "Urban Terror" Mod)
-Halflife* 1, 2 (All current episodes)(Not a big CS fan surprizingly)
-F.E.A.R (original only)(Clan TTK)
-Sin Series (All of them)
-Unreal Tournament* (All of them)(*favor the 1st and 2004)
-Fallout 3* (*Creator of Unarmed vs Deathclaw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yy3WzavbZQI)
-Deus Ex (All of them)
-Mass Effect (All of them)
-Cryss (All of them)
-Metro 2033
-Left4dead 1, 2
-Killing Floor
-etc

Tribes Stats: As of 05/30/2012

Hours Played: 117
Matches Played: 1201
Match wins: 757
Match Loss: 444
Kills: 15224
Win/loss 63%
More accolades than i count.... 2000+

Now on to the subject :ugeek:

Tribes is an awesome game. It very much reminds me of the good old days of Quake 3 arena, or rather Quake Live as it is presently. Very fast paced action, Versitile and Creative weapons, Ski's and jetpacks all make a very pleasant combination. Also the objective oriented aspect of most of the gametypes adds strategy and tends to bond people together. At least most people.....

Since i started playing this game, i have not been able to go more than a day with out it LOL. Very addictive and the replay value is high. It is these elements that moved me to support the developers and pay. I have had many great hours of fun with this game, and I look forward to much more. Might even go pro.

However, as with many good things in this world, there is always the not so pleasent. I will be going over some of these aspects of the game in an attempt to reach hi rez and gamers around the world. Hopefully my opinions will be shared with many, and maybe some actions can be made to make this game even more pleasurable. I have created highlights in order from most priority to less.

So lets get this show started! :D

ADD FIRST PERSON SPEC

Simple really. Did this a lot in pro tourneys, and casual games in the Quake series. Then, the recored videos will have more validity and can be used to show that people are cheating. As it is now, if the automated systems dont detect the cheater, there really is no way to find out, unless you are at the recieving end of the ownage.

For those who have invested time and money in this game, i believe it is a great inconvience to not provide better measures to detect or record those abusing cheating tools. Which i may add is a clear violation of the EULA or Terms and Conditions.

Settings

Only thing i really want to say is that the game menus currently require way to many mouse clicks to go through. There are times when i want to switch teams or make a change, and im stuck in the Class selection menu or something, and i have to use many mouse clicks to change. I know there are hotkeys, but I still think its worthy taking a second look at.

Really wish that a lot more of the Ini's commands could be accessed and changed in the games menus.

I have yet to find a way to remove the drawing of guns in this game. I did this a lot in Descent, quake and even halflife. You can aim better without the gun in the way, and a command or option was always given to adjust this. I realise that this is addressed with the reduced weapon size, which reminds me of Urban Terrors option. However i think it should be adjustable. And smaller. Or rather, the ability to adjust the size of each weapon. Within reasonable limits of course.

Weapons Balence

This is more of a Socialogical observation than anything else. For some reason there is a percieved notion that autos are more powerful than explosives. I honestly have noticed that in the hands of a skilled player autos can murder (Like my self, fwahhah) :ugeek: However, i have seen the same skill displayed with spinfusors. Pros can get mid air kills with spin easliy. Plasma I think does not count as much, since its a bigger hitbox. Honestly i believe that people will come up with any excuse to justify them losing to a duel or game. I dont know why people have such a hard time just admiting that the player is good. Maybe that particulur player pratices ONLY the submachine gun or chaingun or NJ15, etc. Leading skills are important in this game. I believe that Hi rez intended to use of autos as an anti air deterrent, and explosives as anti-ground. Or in other words, the autos complement the explosives, and vise versa. Now we all know the natural tendency of a Pathfinder. They stay in the air. So whats gonna happen? People will use autos or pistols to shoot them out the air, or wait for them to hit the ground. Some people are really good at leading.

So lets stop with all these post about OP autos. Because in the end it really does not make sense. Especially since most weapons are not "Hit-Scan" anymore and the ones that are, have reduced accuracy at medium range, IE "Sparrow" and "Eagle". The nova is dead accurate however, but it only has 6 shots that do 175+ damage a hit. If you CAN...kill anything with the NOVA, than that is an accomplishment, not an abuse of an OP weapon.

I personally think the plasma cannon should be swaped with Gladitor. Because as it is now, the brute is a broken class in any big outdoor environment. Sure you can make it work by spaming the plasma or trying to insta hit the glad. But when the heat is on, and the flag is taken...what are you gonna do with a brute? Chase? With no bullet weapon to combo with the explosive, you not gonna do much unless they are in close range to you. The best logical setup for brute is Heavy Spin / Nova Colt. I mean really whats the point of having explosives as primary and secondary. Anything that has agility will dance around the brute or just do bombing runs....or rather bolt / spin and then run away.

Im still learning the other classes, but i have started playing with ALL OF THEM. However, I frequent Soldier/Doombringer. I use soldier because its very balanced. The spin gives explosive deterrent, and the Eagle gives anti air (to a certain extent). Doombringer gets a lot of scrutiny for some reason. But my reasoning is simple. Just because you have continuous fire doesnt mean you can kill with it. OMG, i have seen so many people try to rock the doombringer and waste half of there 380 bullets trying to kill a pathfinder. It takes great leading skill to aim the chaingun, especially when you have over 40+ ping. And most likely if the doombringer user is good with the chain, he is good with almost all the autos in the game as well. So its not the doombringer, its the "AIMER" The only "EDGE" that i notice with doombringer is its Heavy armor in combo with the chaingun. But how is that different than any other "Heavy" and its Primary weapon.

Server and Lag

I'll keep this short and sweet. I think HI rez needs to either:

-Upgrade the Servers
-Install Anti-lag Tools

I know in the earlier quake series you could use a command called cl_timenudge. It allowed for simulated lag or anti lag. I actually used it a lot to create lag to help with my aim. But on servers when my ping was 80+ a little timenudge would actually compensate with the expense of smooth moving players. It worked out pretty well. I think something like that should be considered for lag fluxuations caused by full server load, or even those with high pings like 100+.

There are times when I would shoot on guy with say..the chaingun and he soaks up damage. But then i shoot another guy with a different ping on HIS connection, and i have actually seen my bullets STOP in front of him, and wrap around. I would then actually have to shoot an empty space ahead of him. Now i dont mean lead to him. I would have to Lead to the empty space ahead of him. Ridiculous.... And the whole time my ping says 33.....

Now there are times when i have seen my ping fluxuate from 33 - 200+ in the middle of games too. Normally when this happens everybody is lagging to greater or lesser degree. In my case, when people are getting 120+ ping, im getting 200+. And this is on the amercan east servers and i have Comcast Highspeed Interent. 25 Mbits Down, and 1.5 Mbits up. No reason for the lag.

Communication

When i sent a email to Hi rez, it takes a few days before i get a reply from a HUMAN. I really think that communication is the key to success. A lot of problems / issues can be resolved with more prompt involvment.


Well thats it. This is the end of my accessement of this game. The High's and the low's. I really appreciate the time anyone may have invested to read this lengthy post. You could be a Hi rez official, or maybe just a Forum member or gamer. If anybody agrees with me or disagress, please feel free to post. The more we talk about it, the quicker things get noticed.

However, if you truely read and understood my post. You will find that all of those mearsures you have suggested have been done already. Recored video is pretty clear. But with no FIRST PERSON SPECTATOR, it is impposible. The process in current establishment...is not without flaws. Results need to be made, and the broader scope of my post has barly been touched by your respose.

Please....I encourage comments. But lets keep it reasonable as the topic suggests. Please read everything.

Hmm.... I guess you decided to scim through what i said as well. I think it is redundant to cite my own words. So i will paraphrase for you.

If you actually took the time to read. You will see that i am talking in past tense.

I am not using this as away to report those in my post. Those measures have been done already.

This tread is geared towards Feedback and Suggestions.

I am giving Feedback to what i have noticed in this game. And i have provided suggestions as this thread topic states.

So far you have rebuked me based on a lose comment from another forum member who has NOT fully comprehended my post.

And if I may remind you. My post is more thank just the cheats that happen in this game.

It seems some of the links broke protocol. And my topic on cheating had links to players.

For that I appologize.

Not trying to start a flame war. Not trying break forum protocols.

But the simple fact remains. Every day, people are breaking your Terms and Conditions by using cheating tools on your servers.

And the people that suffer the most are those who have invested sizable money to your development team. Which ultimatly is bad for your business. I am sure, that if corporate was aware of how serious this is. Changes would be made more promptly.

One of the things i suggested was to add First Prson Spec. And a lot of your problems will be averted. Not all mind you. But a lot. And recordings will be more conclusive.

Something has to be done...... And I dont mind taking the fall and looking like an A$$ for trying.

I think an HUD option to remove the menu animation/fading would work wonders. Same amount of clicks, but it will feel much much faster when you don't need to wait for the transitions to descend the list or to hit escape a few times to return to the game.

Won't work without additional GUI development: The weapons are where the ammo counts are shown.

I believe cl_timenudge is actually just a setting that affects how smooth-or-jagged client-side interpolation is. (Comparable to cl_interp in Source-engine games.) I'm not sure what settings may be available in Unreal Engine 3 that work similarly.

So are you asking for a system which is closer to a moving-average of ping rather than instantaneous measurements?

Hello hvcterr!

Thank you for taking the time to read my post!

Well more specfically to the topic of Latency, i feel that there should be some type of compensation. With the recent conversion of hit-scan to bullet entity, lag is even more of an issue.

Im not 100% sure of how cl_timenudge worked. I just remember that by adjusting it to a negative value...say "cl_timenudge -20", any sprite or weapon entity governed by velocity like say ar Rocket or plasma sprite could actually be accerlated (simulated anti-lag). But the side effect was that player movement was jerky if adjusted to low.

If it can be done with a legacy engine like quake 3, why cant it be done with a new engine?

I guess the best match would be adjusting the projectle speeds relative to the ping threshold.

So say a person with 50 ping gets no compenstation. A person with 100+ gets moderate compensation to revial a 50 ping. And so forth...

As far as the average ping instead of instantanious...I think that would probaby do more harm than good. It may want to round UP...when you want it to round down...just to maintain the average ping. Unless that average ping was set low of course...say like 40. But packet translation isnt really my forte...even tho i know the lingo lol. More into hardware and network topology, than the software side.

I really think that the effect of all the players pings increasing at times, is a by product of the server trying to compensate for the intense pack translation of 32 people. 16 per team right? Not sure what servers Hi rez is using...maybe blade servers? But at times it seems inadequte.

Then there is always the possibilty of external attack from hackers....>.< Packet overflow? Brute force packet sending maybe? With the right tools, the ip address of the servers can be found. And with all the ports tribes uses to run the game...there are potential loop whole.....

Sigh....
