I don't think the SLD is weak.

He still just pales in comparison to the RDR. TCN is somewhere in between.

Why reach...?

It helps when your mates are giving you the flag, and it saved a successful capture more than once by allowing me to pick up the flag our carrier dropped when killed by a foe before they could secure it, and allowed me to cap. It also helps when you actually chase an enemy flag carrier for an increased secure range. I wouldn't give up reach for anything as a defensive soldier.

nah eagle is fine, Its good for what its supposed ot be good for, finishing people off at 5% health who are trying to run. Thats all non-explosive weapons should be good for.

The SLD speciality is its flexible.... :)

I can attack, defend, midfield duel and even cap on occasion. Though to be honest I mainly play C&H now (CTF is just messed up with the curent map designs allowing unstoppable fast caps). A soldier can use their decent energy and spinfusor to win duels, can pick off low health runners wth the eagle and can clear bases with grenades.

I find SLD to be a good class, its only weak due to auto spam op-ness. Fix that and the whole game will get better as auto spam encourages a style of play thats limiting to the SLD.


How are automatic weapons 'op'? Autos can be beat simply by staying on the ground and strafing while blasting their feet with spins. Many people call autos op simply because of their ability as AA weapons; which begs the questions "why not stay on the ground?".

Which is why you get the better positioning as all too many "tribes vets" have told me and also u can get by tapping the right click to get a fine angle ( you can strafe with some jetting to help aiming spins). also SLD is fine as is like you said. Just trying to say people saying auto is spam is very silly; the only reason spin is 'spam' is because it has a lower rate of fire right? ya also a lot more damage per shot which is why the auto needs to be "spammy". Funny how it's only in this game where I find people complaining that an automatic weapon shoots lots of bullets but w/e let the re-skinned rocket launcher lovers have their rage moments.

Yes you can do things to help you shoot a spinfusor, all those things make it easier for the auto spammer to.

People do not complain about an automatic weapon shooting lots of bullets, they complain about an automatic weapon that shoots lots of bullets thus being easier to hit with while having more damage potential than their slow firing slow traveling disc weapons resulting poor game play aka "don't leave the ground"

thumper dx could use a marginal range/damage increase. eagle needs slightly more range and slightly less falloff.

other than this the soldier is fine. the raiders NJ4 needs more falloff and less long range damage, less damage in general reduce by 10-20%

the pathfinders bolt launcher does too much damage. 600 damage would be plenty, PF should be for grabbing flags, not dueling and killing. it is odd that the bolt launcher on the PF is so damage heavy. the LAR with its 3 round burst is fine though.

still, soldiers should eat pf's for lunch most of the time, and I generally have little problems with PF's with the exception of the bolt launcher and its ridiculous dps.

soldier needs some new gear, a new AR - maybe something like the Steyr? and perhaps a mini gladiator. I'd like to see get a little more anti air capability so something other than the doombringer can be used to bring those shrikes down..a mini saber for the soldier?

lol, if bolt launcher do 600 damage there is no reason to use it

I think the Soldier needs parity with other autos (nerf the other autos, don't buff the AR), and I do think the class could benefit from having more flexibility with its gear - the class which is supposed to be most versatile will benefit most from a versatile loadout, correct?

A while back I laid out what I thought would be a sensible Soldier patch:

Soldier -

pack (heavy thrust pack?) - this makes him more of a medium-speed chaser, although it of course would need to be made in such a way that it did not make him the best possible capper.

primary (cluster grenade launcher?) - I'm thinking of a thumper-like weapon that launches a grenade like the cluster grenade. Single-shot, good for clearing stands and adds a little area denial to a class that lacks versatility in that spot. A useful weapon to take along with the Thumper DX for invading the enemy base.

secondary (shock lance?) - It would be good to see the Soldier able to shocklance straight through raider shields (I think the shocklance should ignore shields in T:A). Otherwise this works pretty much just like the shocklance from T2. Would help the Soldier become a better anti-vehicle fighter too, perhaps (depends on how the shocklance works vs. Shrike).
