What irritates me is that flood protection will trigger even if nobody is spotted. If you point up at the sky and spam LALT, you'll get hit with it. Why?

You really have to ask?

Obviously to prevent abuse by scripts, but there are vastly better ways to do it than overzealous flood protection that occurs when you spot nothing.

One spot per player per 5 seconds will contain the spam and mitigate the advantage of scripting.

Counting it when you don't spot anything is hardly overzealous. It prevents people from using it as a tool (much more than they do now, anyway) to reveal anyone trying to ski low and behind cover the instant they show up for a brief second as a few pixels.

Which is, ironically, the only purpose of the Saber launcher right now.

A long enough delay in between would make spamming it unwise, just as it is now, only without the flood of flood warnings.

Just make the field-of-..spot(?) smaller. So you cant just aim in some arbitrary direction and press the button, they should require that the enemy/object be closer to the crosshairs.

Gives beowulf chaingunners target practice.

Also make it so you have to have it centered onto the crosshairs to spot, similar to the lockon area of sabre.

While I like the Idea, 5 seconds is an insanely long time considering that's usually the time from spotting time to flag. :)
