You should include an "Other" or "Unsure" choice as well. For some of the questions I didn't really have much of an opinion, but was still forced to pick one of choices.

All of the questions (aside from Gotta go fast?) are optional. Leave it blank if you have no opinion.

questions are a little.... leading and lack options.

Case in point... "should chain-gun type weapons receive a blanket nerf?"

There are a LOT of cg style weapons, not all of them have problems, but gods, a lot of them do. The chaingun and the assualt rifle are about where they should be, but things like the falcon, njs and others are not. A flat out blanket nerf would radically reduce the effectiveness of HOFs (who need all the help they can get) as well as limit the load out options for slds.

A blanket nerf? no.... a lot of specific nerfs? yeah... but you didn't have that option.

Sorry, I did phrase that one badly. I think I might restart the quiz later tonight with fixed phrasing and a couple more questions.

60% of players want inheritance changed

74% of those players want inheritance to be changed to 100%.

Go Hi-Rez!

Thanks for putting that together. And to the person that says that it is not a good survey because of the poor sampling: these forums are going to contain the people that know the most about the game. If there was an in game survey, it would be completed by people that don't even know what inheritance is. TBH, you are getting the more valuable feedback by just keeping it to the forum goers. I think chasing is a serious concern and it was not addressed in the survey. There was a question about drag when going fast, but I think that drag should only be applied when holding the flag.

I think there is a couple problems with this survey.

One is convenience sampling.
The other is that you can retake the survey as many times as you want.

Post Re: The T:A general survey
Not really. There's a massive amount of bias introduced by this survey...

Selection bias. By its very nature, a forum-only survey misses a huge proportion of the player base, and I disagree with the premise that the forum represents an accurate cross-section of player opinion.

Non-respondent bias. People who respond to surveys are inherently different from those that don't. In general, you're far more likely to fill out a survey if you believe the game is massively flawed. Additionally, people who see inflammatory/leading questions that go against their opinions (like the ones about automatics in this survey) are less likely to complete and submit the survey. Convenience sampling also factors in here, since certain people are more disposed to fill out surveys in the first place.

This survey is also hugely underpowered (in the statistical sense, not gameplay sense). The sample size is tiny compared to the player base at large.

Finally, some of the questions are too stark and leave no room for grey area in between the options, as many posters have already pointed out.

For the record, I'm pretty sure my answers were in accordance with the majority so far on every question. That doesn't mean this is a valid survey. Even one sent out by Hi-Rez via email isn't perfect, though it'd be miles ahead of this one. You can't infer any generalizable views of the playerbase as a whole, and arguably you can't even infer the views of this forum alone.

Hi-Rez is dead in these forums.

When was the last time an actual dev came out here and talked to us.

What was that, you said? Never? We have never had a discussion with anyone from HR that didn't start and end with "We playtested it and no, we won't do it."

This is a joke. I appreciate what you guys are trying to do here and I filled the survey, but I don't know why we even bother.

The Tribes IP will fade into obscurity for another 5 years. Hopefully the next studio to take it up will have a better attitude.

But they have made many statements on the forums regarding serious issues. I might be a hardcore tribes fan, but i'm not going to be some spoiled brat about it like you clearly exhibit.

Your statements are immature and untrue.

I don't think Sottilde is less of fan of the Tribes franchise than you or me.
And as a fan I think this game broken in many core aspects. The one aspect that bothers me the most is the physics engine. In the many physics threads that provide very detailed feedback by very knowledgeable people, I haven't seen a single HiRez response.

Look at the CSN tournament HiRez sponsored this weekend. Have you read the rule set?
If you had, you've probably noticed that:
1. Plasma and Jackal are out
2. Strikes are out
3. Temple Ruins is out

Did you ask yourself why they are out from a tournament HiRez is handing out $2500? Here's how I'd answer it:
1. HiRez released (and keep releasing) unbalanced weapons, though they seem to be working on balancing them later.
2. The single most un-eSporty, cowboy-style feature which requires zero team-based coordination in the history of the Tribes franchise (which is after all a team-based eSport).
And the thing most important for me, exposing the broken physics engine of this game:
3. In Temple Ruins there's no chasing, there are insane speeds (air drag, anyone?), making the map a competition dud.

The game is a month old and already the community is voting against key features HiRez introduced to the franchise.
You might say that competition rules are not for the general public. Most people will probably just pub, I agree.
But to keep a community, and game, viable, the two groups (pubbers and "pros") must feed off eachother. And I'm saying that because I'm a fan of the franchise...

I'm probably going to get flamed for this, but on the inheritance issue I would rather see a significant projectile speed increase for spinfusor type weapons and inheritance reduced to 0%. In my mind energy weapons shouldn't have inheritance at all. Leave it on thumper/mortar etc. With 100% inheritance it would be incredibly easy to hit people at high speed, and while this would be an improvement for chasers, it takes most of the need to lead targets out of the equation.

I like the fact that we currently need to lead targets as it adds to the gameplay in the form of trying to effectively calculate and predict where your opponent will be by the time your shot reaches him/her. But at the same time 50% inheritance feels extremely unintuitive and I don't think 100% is the solution.

Punish me as you see fit.

I don't think you understand how inheritance works. You still need to lead targets based on their distance away from you and their speed. The difference is that the leading becomes solely based on their speed/distance relative to yourself, rather than relative to some arbitrary stationary point on the ground (which is what 0% inheritance would do).

It makes leading more consistent (in fact completely consistent) because you lead based on how they're moving relative to your reticule. However, it also makes it a lot less intuitive, since many people use stationary landmarks (the ground, buildings, etc) as landmarks for aim. With 100% inheritance, these landmarks become largely useless.
