OK there has been a lot of arguments about the saber taking too long to lock and being useless in each stage of its insect like life in general. Personally I agree with these, but lets not get into them. All voices have been heard.

However IMO the most f ludicrously frustrating and unnecessary aspect of the sabers use is the fact that you can be so close to getting a lock i.e 2.95 seconds, and some tree or shurb or dust mite gets in the way of the enemy and PROCESS CANCELLED. Start again. Same thing. PROCESS CANCELLED. Start again.

I also always find it impossible to track when the enemy is passing me requiring a fast 180 degree to keep aiming at them turn (due to my low fps) so the millisecond the game registers I move my cursor 1 pixel too far of the enemy, PROCESS CANCELLED.

So what I recommend is a two way timer for the 3 second lock. Please no s*** about how this would be hard to be implement because the oribital, tactical and supply laser guns have this. IF you targetting something, then go to an invalid area the timer simply rolls back and as soon as you go back to an allowed area, it starts to roll forward again from where it left of WITHOUT RESETTING.

Personally I think the saber NEEDS a speed buff too. But I think my solution is good middle ground and it would be the least disruptive. It does not change the foundations of the weapon balance at all.

In other words, you want interruptions to "slowly rewind" the locking-progress, rather than instantly resetting it to zero?

That sounds good, as long as the timings are tweaked a bit and you can't "transfer" locking-progress from one enemy to another. Actually, I'd like to suggest merging it with this control-scheme change:

This way there's no exploiting a "progress transfer" bug, and other enemies flying around won't "reset" your progress as it flips between targets, and the game doesn't need to keep an independent progress-counter for every single Doombrings/Enemy combination.

They need to change the way it locks on also. It shouldn't automatically try to lock on to people. It should show people as targets with the yellow boxes and then you select somebody and hold down the button and it starts to lock on. Soon as the lock finishes it should instantly fire the missile off.

At the very least that change needs to be made. It probably needs a lot of buffs still but we will see.

+1 the saber is more frustrating to use than fun. Most of the time when you do use it the person you targeted is going so fast they are long gone or go down the other side of a hill and the missile flies right into the hill. I think it could do with going about twice as high before going down onto the target than it does currently, unless they are right up close.

Ive only hit once with this thing.
Pathfinder with our map was so d*** high in the air that i could lock on him. shoot, rocket travels something about 15s, hit, kill.

because im playing most of the time sentinel, rockets locked onto me are just laughable.
one time nearly 20s after start someone shoot a rocket to me.
i had enough time to watch it through my scope and take a perfect shot.
sadly there is no medal for this^^

i dont know if you can reduce the lock on time with upgrades, but the vanilla version is way to slow.
also that you always lock on jetpacking guys is frustrating.

I've taken them out with heavy spinfusor shots. It's laughably easy to shoot down.
