The Plasma Gun is not OP. I recently came back to TA and saw the new items for the Raider. Since I had like 6000 gold from buying VIP status via pre-ordering TA a long time ago in beta, I decided to buy the plasma gun and upgraded it fully.

It's really awesome for Raider-style gameplay due to it's projectile speed, weapon speed (whatever term you use to describe the time it takes for the PG to shoot again after a shot), and reload speed.

Everyone says that it's OP because its "fast" and "really high aoe". I will admit that it's fast, that's why I love it. Speed is the PG's defining feature... But AOE? No. It has low AOE. I actually have to be accurate when shooting someone standing on the ground because if I miss by like 1 or 2 meters I won't hurt him at all. With Spinfusors, those d*** Bolt Launchers with HUGE aoe, etc the PG does not even compare in AOE ability.

I think one of the points in the OP is that the PG lands you a lot of Air-mails. This is because of both the weapon speed and the projectile speed. When I'm shooting someone in the air, the closer I have my crossfire on him the better, because the projectile speed is so awesome in mid-air that I can just aim at the guy and it'll hit in most cases for 500 damage. Weapon speed only accelerates the rate at which I can hit someone in mid-air.

If you aren't accurate with the PG, the PG will not help you. Spinfusors and Bolt Launchers are there with their AOE abilities to accommodate your lack of accuracy. I am an accurate shooter and that's why I love the PG.

I will admit though that the damage is just a bit high. It should be toned down to maybe 400 on a direct hit, but if anything as low as 350 that way we can't 2 shot un-upgraded infiltrators, pathfinders, etc classes with light armor.

I wonder if the weapon is affected or should be affected by inheritance. I can't really imagine how a ball of pure energy that is not really a physical projectile should care about the speed of his owner.

the plasma gun kills things just as fast as the NJ4 does. in pretty much every situations when you would be using the plasma gun (read that as at very close range) you might as well just keep using your NJ4. except maybe indoors as obviously the Nj4 isn't that good indoors and you would be way better off with the plasma gun because it has a small AOE

Plasma is comprised of matter not pure energy.

Just my 2 cent.

IMO it still need a little tweak. As it is now it gives a medium class a heavy class power ability, more or less.

A bit slower R.O.F or a bit lower damage pr hit. The hitboks is ok but I can't defend the damage output.
Do a test in the shooting range. Go to the 3 imobile targets, 1 heavy, 1 medium and 1 small target.
Now fire them down as fast as you can.
With the plasma gun I can take the 3 of them down in 6.5 seconds. With spinfuser I use 10 seconds. That is how much more powerfull the plasma gun is.
Even SMG's uses about 9 seconds to take down all 3 targets.
Even heavy with their weapons have a hard time, or cant even get under 6.5 seconds.

yes, IMO plasma gun still need a small tweak.

Since they fixed the size of the thing hitting when it visually wasn't near a person, I think the weapon is just about fine.

Unless they are almost point blank to you, most Raiders still fail to hit anything with all 8 shots.

However, I do think that it shouldn't be considered an explosive weapon. It should not have splash damage. It should be for MA and direct hits; not spamming the ground as many raiders use it now that it's been fixed.

Uh... Unless they changed the magazine size with the other fix, it was 8 when I played with it in Target Practice. But I have not played with it again since they fixed the projectile size.

Maybe it is/was bugged in practice mode? Seems like an odd bug though.

When you're actually in a match (remember, I don't have it unlocked yet, just used it in practice) does it show your reserve ammo count? Because it doesn't in practice mode. Until I ran out of ammo, I thought the thing had unlimited mags.
