Post Tribes: Ascend GPU & CPU Performance Test
Found this really good performance review of T:A. Have a look!

http://www.techspot.com/review/522-trib ... ance-test/

SUMMARY:

As mentioned earlier, Hi-Rez Studios recommends an HD 6950/GTX 560 or faster to enjoy Tribes: Ascend at its best. This recommendation seems accurate as both cards just exceeded 60fps when testing the game with max settings at 1680x1050.

Hi-Rez Studios' quad-core CPU recommendation also rang true as Tribes: Ascend only ever used up to four threads. The dual-core Phenom II X2 and Athlon II X2 suffered with a little over 20% less speed than their quad-core parts. AMD's FX range all appeared to deliver similar results, which was comparable to quad-core Phenom II X4 and Athlon II X4 chips as well as the older Core i7 LGA1366 range. Sandy Bridge delivered a slight bump while the SB-E Core i7-3960X was much faster than anything else we tested.

While AMD's FX and Athlon II X4 series provided sufficient performance, gamers seeking the best performance possible will want Intel inside.

Yes, they chose a piece of artwork that wasn't realistic with the game, but it IS a Hi-Rez image (Sunstar Art Concept) and was in their media kit last I looked. I chuckled at it too though.

Their performance eval was pretty good though.

It would've been nice to see minimum fps figures too. Personally I play on minimal because a quad core processor and a Radeon HD5850 are not enough to get a consistently high fps even on medium in this game.

This goes to show how often I look for information outside the forums.

I knew I made some not-so great choices when building my PC over the past 8 months or so, but I was on a fairly tight budget. However, my pants got tight when I seen my FX-6200 doing reasonably well on one of the tests, outperforming the other FX chips slightly.

I pretty much have an entry level gaming system for higher graphics.

1GB HD Radeon 6850
AMD bulldozer FX-6200 (3.8GHz)
8GB DDR3 Corsair Vengeance (running at 1333 MHz, couldn't get it to run at 1600 -_-)

Along with everything else, does the job for me, I can quite comfortably game on Very High at 1920x1080. But for the FPS along with always running Fraps in the event I may want to record something, I usually have it on High or Medium so I have more room to move into.

Was pretty cheap too.

MY rig is similar to what FreaK367 has actually and the game runs great for me at 1680x1050 (I just don't like running any higher than that):

Phenom II x4 970
1GB XFX RADEON HD6870
2 x 4GB DDR3 Corsair Dominator
2 x 1TB WD Black (Mirror - Adaptec RAID)

Then again, I also run a custom ini file hehe.
