Post A B C D loadouts, TF2 style.
Hi,

I think we need some A B C D loadouts, like TF2 does.
Example, you play INF mostly, you can customize your PTH loadouts
A: Rhino smg, pistol, sticky nade etc
B: Stealth spinfusor, Throwing Knives, Smoke nade etc
C: Jackal, pistol, Smoke nade etc
D: Anything else, you get the idea.

So when you select your class, you can just quick select the loadout you currently need in one click.

Been discussed and hopefully will be impleneted soon.

We got the numlock loadout selection at least. But still not too customizable.

One way to allow for loadouts along with class selection could be bindable shifting keys. So if the defaults are [CTRL] and [SHIFT], you'd get something like
[NUM3] -> Infiltrator on loadout #1
[CTRL]+[NUM3] -> Infiltrator on loadout #2
[SHIFT]+[NUM3] -> Infiltrator on loadout #3
[CTRL]+[SHIFT]+[NUM3] -> Infiltrator on loadout #4

I was also thinking of simples A B C D buttons above the character on class selection screen, but shifting keys would be welcome as well.

Why not simply A+num3, B+num3 etc?

Well that's good news then :)

It would be rebindable, so you'd be able to do whatever keys you wanted. You could even make it [1]+[NUM1], [2]+[NUM1], etc. It would allow quick loadout selection without actually going into the full class select menu.

No, do not use modifier keys. Not ctrl, not shift, not alt, because every single one of those may be bound to another action. I don't want my shift key to toggle zoom when I'm getting a new loadout, for example.

Instead, repeated presses of numpad 1-9 should cycle through class loadouts, or else use something like numpad+ to cycle through "banks" of the 1-9 keys.

I agree.

There are two ways to program the loadout hotkeys that would work properly...

1. Press Numpad key once to choose class Loadout 1, then hit the same key again to cycle through additional loadouts.
E.g. Hit 6 once for TCN Loadout 1, 66 for TCN Loadout 2, 666 for TCN Loadout 3, or 6666 for TCN Loadout 4.
  • Advantage: Each class only has 1 key so you can't get confused.
  • Disadvantage: Have to hit the key many times, depending on how many loadout slots there are. This works well for 4 loadout slots, but not for 9 loadout slots.

2. Press Numpad key once to choose class, then hit the number of the loadout you want.
E.g. Hit 8 for DMB, then hit 3 for Loadout 3. (defaults to Loadout 1 if no second key is pressed)
  • Advantage: Regardless of which loadout you want you only tap the keyboard twice
  • Disadvantage: If you hit the keys multiple times quickly you could confuse yourself and choose the wrong class.

Wait, why are you still reading? It should be obvious that this signature is pointless and just here to be green.
Stop reading already! You're procrastinating too much!

Or, you know, just limit it to 9 loadouts but make them completely customizable. You can still do class changes the long way for anything you didn't make a loadout for.

Thats not feasible for players who regularly swap classes as needed. Besides, its idiotic to limit yourself to 9 saves when theres 4+ solutions to solve that.

Fair enough on the latter point. But I just meant to say, "There's a really simple way to do this without introducing any new fancy mechanics."
