Post LAR & Click-to-Fire. HiRez, it's time...
... to just get rid of this mechanic already. It's completely unfun and unintuitive.

Not to mention that i'm basically forced to use a third-party-program like AutoHotKey to squeeze the highest possible damage out of this gun. It's a cheap and ugly solution to a problem that shouldn't even be there in the first place.

So please, just allow us to keep mouse1 pressed. Pretty please? With Sugar ontop?!
My mouse is begging you. It's already showing signs of wearing down.
It's really not an unreasonable request which has been suggested before.

I also assume that with a fixed rate of fire, balancing the gun would be alot easier.
No more, "the faster you click, the more damage you do!".

Thanks for reading and god bless.

your solution is what people call "cheating" I would delete your post before someone with a ban stick walks by and reads it.

Yea, except that AutoHotKey is well known and not considered cheating by HiRez standards.

Which is stupid because it's a third party program that artificially augments your gameplay. Seems like cheating to me.

Leaving aside the issue of exactly how (il)licit such programs are, the game ought to be designed so that there's no benefit to having them, either by making capping the fire rate so low that it doesn't matter, or else offering hold-to-repeat functionality.

consider that most 'gaming' mice/peripherals can do the exact same thing in their on board firmware. by the time the signal hits the USB port, it's the exact same as an unmodified signal. AKA undetectable.

it's something that you can't effectively stop. the programming man power necessary to stop it would be huge for the result. you may as well call out a tank division to go hunt deer.

valve tried to circumvent this for years, and in the end, caved and made it a feature. it just wasn't worth the effort, and leveled the playing field for those who payed for a fancy mouse and those who didn't

AHK isn't stupid.
not coding this directly into the game and necessitating AHK is

I wasn't saying AHK was stupid, but I see your point in that it would be extremely hard to actually monitor. It's just that if HiRez doesn't care about people using AHK they should just implement a way for enabling it in game, and making a (very short) hard-cap for the maximum rate of fire you can achieve with the LAR. What percentage of players do you think would actually go to the extent of making an AHK script for something like that? Most people don't read game forums or are even aware that scripting like that is even possible. For me it's just an issue of unfair advantage.

edit: I agree with everything you said.

Bingo.

I like a different approach, add an overheat to the weapon. Fire too many bursts too fast, and the weapon becomes unusable for several seconds. Allowing a brief moment between bursts would prevent the weapon from overheating.

It would make the click to fire a bit more intuitive, would stress controlled bursts, and would still allow a bit of the "spray and pray" if someone's frantically trying to get that last sliver of health down.

... in my opinion.
