First list your specs, no one knows the exact nature of your computer till we have specs to determine that. Used to be pretty good is what I have heard alot of people say, then I say no sorry it never used to be any good not once ever, not even the day you bought it. Everyone has a different idea of what good is and everyone has a different idea of what a long or short time is. In addition where do you live?

TBH every game I ever played was like this even BF3 which is slow as all get out, 90% of the team in a pub is riff raff and worth nothing more than a distraction you hope the other good player shoots at, they dont know what the point of the game is, they aren't skilled enough to kill, etc.... It is just a hand full of players in every pub in every game doing 90% of the work. The others are just DMing in midfield.
I have proposed on this forum many times HiRez needs to implement and easier to understand and play mode like TF2s payload or siege to help aleviate this.

I certainly agree with you more ranking and breaking up by rank is needed. It could not come fast enough just like Chicago servers.

voip in game is also a must that could not come fast enough. The VGS binds of tribes were a great idea when alot of people ran 56K and implementing a good VOIP was going to incure tremendous lag for many, also at the time up to 128 players could be on a team, imagine that roger wilco? But now we have much more managable team size and much faster connections.

So I agree with alot of what you are saying, but at the same time I want to tell you to keep working at it and keep playing, there are a handfull of games that will teach you to reach a new level not just in the game but in life too, the skills you learn in a game actually teach you how to build skill faster in real life. And doing something like CS/BF/COD just is no where near the same level as a game like Tribes. It is work, fun work though, stimulating work. Prefer not to work? play angry birds.

they really should segregate at least 1-10

then we'll have level 11 players coming in here and complaining.

people need to work up to the big leagues gradually. better match making would be the best way to do this. Putting in a middle weight segregation, ie levels 6-15, would also help.

Hey man, I feel your pain! I feel most of my playtime is pretty average, with occasional flashes of pretty good that just make my day. Worked my way up from heavies through the mediums and now primarily run the flag at around 260-313. 300 is still a skill barrier for me most of the time apparently.

If you feel like it, add me as a friend, come hop in when I'm playing and I'll do what I can to help. Maybe even shadow you around some and see what cover, assistance and advice I can offer.

I dont see voip coming for this game. Too many people already use a 3rd party program like teamspeak or ventrillo. In fact i would rather they didnt waste their time with it. Too many other issues in the game that are more important.

Sprout... I have to side with Fluff. The learning curve in Tribes is steep... it used to be even steeper with the first two games in the franchise. But it's worth it...

Assuming you are playing CTF, there are a lot of things you can do to help your team. Given the design choices Hi-Rez did, playing on defense can be frustrating. In this case go offense, annoy the enemy defenders, annoy their sentinels, destroy their inventory stations, their turrets, their sensors, their force fields. In this regard, the pathfinder is the best combo as it comes with the gear to move fast and get things done.

You might not get to the top of the list but you'll do REALLY important actions toward victory. A lightning fast pathfinder is useless if a force field stands in his way.

@OP

The matchmaking is s***, and trust me, not even the high rank players enjoy games filled with a bunch of newbies. Getting more kills isn't really an upside when a lot of seasoned players actually want to play CTF and not TDM with flags. Plus, newbs do a lot of bad stuff like llama grabs.

But, sweat it out. People become "competitive" around rank 15 or maybe a month of playing the game. It's not hard once you have the basics down.

If you want to be useful to your team right now, the best way is to get soldier and sit on the flag stand. Thump or disc anyone that comes in for the flag. Even if you don't get the kill you are making it MUCH easier for any snipers or auto-whores on your team to finish him off.

EDIT: I want to emphasize very clearly here. Defending the flag means defending the FLAG. Not defending the "area around the base". It's funny how often you can blow past 8 people near the enemy flag and not one of them tries to shoot you as you're coming in for it (very clearly). Most won't even attempt to chase you - not that it will matter if you make it out with high speeds. So in the majority of games, if you don't hit a mine or some other passive crap, your only concern is getting sniped and whether your flag will be at base to cap. Seriously. Defend the FLAG. There are too many pub games where there is absolutely ZERO flag defense, despite there being a lot of people just meandering around near it. And protip: If you can invest the XP into Soldier, use thumper + AR with quickdraw perk. Shoot them as they come in, hit them as they get near, then shoot at them as they leave. You don't have to get the kill, just do as much damage as you can.

You can also do offensive work by spamming discs at any deployables from safe range. Your cappers will appreciate it.

And if you really want, playing tech doesn't take much skill. Just go around repairing stuff constantly. It might not make a d*** difference if your team has no forcefields or deployable turrets (good cappers don't really care about base turrets as they can be avoided). But on some games you might have a good doombringer HoF or a couple other techs and it can make a solid difference.

Those are the three "easiest" ways to be useful. Going around having duels in midfield isn't very useful even if you win those fights. Playing capper, HoF or sniper is generally harder than what I mentioned, and so is being heavy offense where you attract a lot more attention.

Overall, stick with the game. Tribes is a lot more fun than typical fps where the first to win fights is usually the one who fires first. In Tribes you can dodge a lot of death and thinking ahead is rewarded almost more than thinking fast.

I really didn't notice there were noob servers until I made a second account and thought "wow, easy mode"... Didn't notice when I crossed into the big boy servers, but I think that 1-6, 6-12 and 13+ might be better.

screen shake/visor cracking
-complained about by most since early beta

lack of proper matchmaking
-complained about by most since early beta

lack of proper ctf tutorial for new players
-complained about since beta

gg hi-rez
what a f*** joke, why do people even bother continuing to make threads on here when the major issues get ignored. keep introducing more unbalanced, untested weapons to a game that is supposedly "out of beta", but don't fix what the community asks for.

practice. too many ppl are leaving because of the learning curve and hirez throwing everyone into 1 huge pool after level 5 instead of tiering players better based on rank.

The game is hard, until I hit level 18 or so I had a really hard time, everything happened so fast, I got murdered over and over, etc. but eventually it "clicks" and you find your niche and the game gets really fun.

stick with it.

These problems have been debated for so long that it's like putting together an undead horse before you flog it to pieces anyway. I don't think one more thread could possibly make a difference, and though I agree with you, I have to say...
