When you install the game, your often taken to a system that requires you to create an account and register key you got from the retailer. Registering that key turns into another grey area since your entering a separate agreement between you and a "service provider". Thats how a lot of publishers are trying to get around the second hand market by making games a service, instead of a product. HR has made it clear that there was going to be no xp / gold refund when they went live.
