Post Fractal Grenade Consistency Fix
Fractal grenades are a powerful option for area denial. The problem is that they are far too inconsistent. Sometimes a heavy walks into one and dies almost instantly, and sometimes a light just saunters through one unharmed. This is ridiculous. No weapon should be this reliant on random chance. Therefore, the grenades should be made more consistent.

1. Drop the damage to 160 per bolt, or roughly a 61% nerf. The bolts right now deal too much damage for the burst speed to be greatly increase.
2. Drop the time between bursts by 66%, i.e., triple the amount of lasers. This maintains a similar DPS while having two benefits. One, the overall DPS will be far more consistent. Two, the AoE on a fractal will be easier to see.
3. Cut the knockback on fractals by 80%. This means that there will be less knockback overall, which is a good thing. Getting stuck in a fractal vortex is frustrating.

What would be the end result? Grenades that more adequately fit their role as area denial. As they are now, fractals are far too random. No weapon in the game should be balanced around randomness to that degree. Normalizing their DPS needs to be done.

+1 fractals are far too random. Random is bad.

I agree with the idea. The numbers might be off, but Hirez can balance that. Less knockback and more consistent DPS in the fractal damage area.

Yeah, the numbers are just rough ideas. I don't have any specific data for it, but tripling the fire rate seems good to me. No way to be sure unless HiRez tests things out, though.

I personally wouldn't mind if they went all the way with this idea and just turned it into a napalm blob field or something like that. The nade explodes into a cloud and everyone in the cloud takes constant damage until they get out.

agreed . i skied by a fractal in a random hill on a route today, and i was stopped dead, and puled back into the aoe.

that's excessive

Is that a bug? Fractals don't so much have knockback as knock around.

I agree, this is a good idea.
