ParticleLODBias= can safely be tweaked. HiRezEverett (?) iirc gave tweakable values a week or so ago. 0-10. you can test by setting zero and looking at the mortar or disc trails and also the 'size' of the tracers. setting 10 removes most of the trails and makes the tracers less blinding.

the default setting is the unreal engine default.

Only reason I had it set to "Do Not Touch" is because I did not know what the back-end values were from the Server and felt it best to leave it alone until until more was known. ParticleLODBias can really cause some stuttering issues if set incorrectly. If Everette gave values for it though, I'll update my list. Do you have a post by any chance? And thanks.

FYI... setting a value of ParticleLODBias=-1 does incredible things to minor particle effects such as trails (jet and in-flight discs,bullets,projectiles). It's really helped my Bolt Launcher use out as I can see a long trail of the Bolt now.

I can assure the DepthOfField value does not work as you might think, and I was not expecting it myself
it does not have anything to do with actual depth of field as you would expect, if set to false it disables a LOT of effects
try it yourself

ParticleLODBias=-1

Gives absolutely the best view of Pathfinder bolts for now. HiRez is still working on Particle Effects for minor textures, so there may be more tweaks to this in the future, but -1 works better than 0 for seeing bolts and other minute details.

Yea, depthoffield definitely doesn't do what it is described. Turning it off gives the game a layer of haze. It seems like it has something to do with lightning mostly.

DepthofField determines the focal distance of objects rendered within your PoV and tries to mimic how the human eye works; It has nothing to do with lighting (although lighting will intensify or mute the effects) and everything to do with blurring effect of objects at distances from your character "FOCUS_Position".

Here's some examples of what it means that I just cannot describe any better:

True on the left, false on the right.

The only thing changed here was depth of field.

I suppose that true is adding more clarity to the foreground, but false is removing clarity from everything and making the entire game look washed out and dark.

exactly.
that's why I am taking this thread with a grain of salt.
from a techical standpoint it's correct, but hi-rez might have implemented things differently
