Post Re: Connecting to Global Agenda IRC with mIRC
Right now there aren't really any "popular" channels since it's a new network. There is #lobby that you autojoin, #protocol, and #agendastats, that's it really. That's why we need help getting the network to grow. With time as rekk and torokokill work their magic there will be more channels with spiffy bots that can do things like pull stats, live AvA results feed, and the other stuff torokokill listed above for now. With any luck and some dev interest they may be able to further link IRC into the game as well, there a lot of things that can be done fairly easily even by unexperienced programmers.

The biggest benefit it can provide right now is to give agencies wihout (or even with) a forum or website a place to congregate. They can make their own channel easily and for free. IRC is a great way of staying in touch with groups outside of games.

oh and thanks for the sticky btw whoever that was ;)

Post Re: Connecting to Global Agenda IRC with mIRC
I see some real potential in this. I remember back in the days of Anarchy Online when we used to have chatbots connecting our organization (guild) chats to IRC, and someone even developed an entire program that, in all practicality, separated the chat from the game itself. This was extremely useful for PvP tower control and such, and just for chat idling without having your computer run an entire game.

If Hirez could set up and IRC server, and set a server connect passkey and such for each individual account (IRC nick would also need to be ingame nick), with some work we could seamlessly relay IRC with ingame chat. Alot of companies overlook this, but this is really one of the best things any real community driven game could implement.

Just think: Effective AvA monitoring, ability to communicate with those ingame without having to start a 1.5 gb mem application, stats tracking, and loads of other possibilities.

Alliance/agency channel names could be #<name>, or #Alliance-<name> or some variation. Only members of said agency or alliance could join without permission, but others may be invited by those with auths (spying!).

Such merging of the ingame and inactive communities could really be something to make this game take off (more than it already has).

There's also #GA and #swarm-gaming (shameless advert.)

Anyway will see if I can get some agency members interested. Would be nice to have this succeed.

Personally I always found the Scrim/Pug channels to be the IRC's main attraction as it's easier to coordinate them in IRC. If the game keeps growing and people idle/use the Scrim/Pug channels it would def help the game.

That's exactly what I was thinking of originally while remembering all my time in #findringer for counter-strike. First we need to work on getting a decent number of people in the IRC to begin with though because even the lobby rarely has more than 5 people in it right now. Problem is people connect and see that no one is on or chatting so they leave, we need to reach a certain level of activity and then the activity itself will continue to attract more people. Soooo... if you aren't idling, go idle now! :)

Yeah everyone should go idle there. Keeping a steady 8-10 people online though.

Looks like we have that now, it'd be nice to have a little more activity than just idlers though.

The scrim idea sounds pretty d*** interesting, hopefully more people will join in.

Also, IRC is NOT dead. ._.

I took this guide and formatted it onto the new IRC page on agendastats, I'm assuming you don't mind ;)
