T:A 16v16 balance is much like Starcraft 4v4 balance

it's only "balanced" when the players are idiots

I think strikes are alright in public games and kind of needed sometimes where it's hard to get good coordination, it's the spam that's the problem; perhaps making v-pad free while making call-ins and upgrades expensive would be a good idea with FF and teampooling on.
I would highly suggest keeping class switching on at dropped inventory stations, it's very important for offense.

Keep in mind defense has a big advantage especially in larger formats and even 12s would be cluster f*** on some maps, this is because respawning is a ride home; a full restock; a class switch and a pat on the butt for good luck. I seriously suggest adding a longer spawn or naked spawning as much players hate it for screwing with their flow it's needed in public games since you lack timings, naked spawning would be preferable unfortunately Hi-rez doesn't support it though.

As nice as it might be i really dont see the need for this. If they gave us a few more options as far as server controls go i think the custom servers will get more people playing on them. Plus, not everyone may completely agree with the twl ruleset.

I tend to not agree to any thread posted by AnarchyAO, but for some dude named Andrew, I can give a +1. :D

1. Custom servers will never be able to compete with the ease of "play now" which is why an optional queue would be more desirable. Check a box, hit play now like everyone else, and get into a different queue.

2. If they don't agree to the rule set, they they don't have to opt into it. They just continue doing what they currently do and seamlessly stay in the public queue.

No, the game is balanced around 16v16, there's no reason that Hi-Rez should force this completly different "eSports" game upon the 99% that play their game. You've already completely ruined the game for yourself with your rulesets and now you want to force it on others?

Some people.

How is adding a 12v12 ctf public queue option with more advanced player options/rulesets (one example, team damage being on) creating a new 'eSports game'?

For your argument to make any sense then you should also understand that you believe 16v16 "Play now" "Capture the Flag" is an eSports game (I know you don't think this).

It's odd that you'd want to use this argument because the public queues in this game which feature various game types and rulesets have never had their format (example, 16v16 CTF; 5v5 arena, etc) popularized through the eSports game that HiRez markets to both new/current/potential players and tournament organizations like NASL, CSN, and FPSGeneral.

The popularized 7v7 and 8v8 format of CTF and it's somewhat standardized ruleset (minor differences between tournaments and ladders like level 1 assets/level 0 assets or TWLs 7 caps to win/many tournaments 5 caps to win) have never been available as alternative options for the public CTF queue.

I don't encourage or want 7v7 or 8v8 to be included as an option on the public CTF queue because pubs are innately unorganized, and are intended to be utilized for casual, unorganized play.

The proposed ruleset is what I think would create a more balanced (increased focus on role-centric, less on mindless spam that completely dilutes gameplay value). There are some issues like shared/pooled credits may need to be ditched due to potential trolling associated with it in a public game, but I think that this would be a much more desired alternative to the unorganized mess that is 16v16.

I think that this 12v12 CTF queue option is preferred by most people who play pickups on a regular basis and it's also a great way for newer players who want to ease their way into the 'pickup scene' because the 12v12 format is more relevant to 7v7 than 16v16 (at least you begin to see the game playing in a wildly different, hopefully more enjoyable and challenging manner).

The 12v12 CTF queue option may also be spoken of by people in various online forums/communities as possessing a higher-caliber player base, and suggestions to queue for this may be provided to those seeking out a more easily accessible means of being exposed to the pickup and consequently the competitive community.

Sure there's more neat ways of accomplishing this (http://www.tf2lobby.com) but that's not going to happen, so this is the best way to compromise with HiRez.

Mabel I appreciate your response and I hope Firefall is offering you an enriching experience, one that HiRez was unable to deliver for you in Tribal: Ascend.

Best,

Andrew

Regardless; +1 to the idea.
