What it comes down to is providing proper incentives for CTF gameplay.
Face it, the experience system isn't going away. So thinking of a productive way to work 'with' the system is a better use of your time.

My Suggestions?
Limit the "Roles" on a team by providing bonuses for things 'not being done'.
When 6+ people are within range of getting a "Flag Defender" medal, something is wrong.

Flag Stand Clearing = Bonus Exp for enemies/defenses destroyed.
Attacking the enemy Gen room = Bonus Exp for first 3 people there.
Defending your own Gen room = Bonus Exp for first 2 people there.
Defending your Flag stand = Bonus Exp for first 3 people there.
Escorting the Flag Carrier = Bonus Exp while not within the area of your base (and within range of the Flag Carrier.)
Holding the Flag = Bonus Exp while 'in' the area of your base.

It's not perfect, but it's been done before.

HiRez is trying to fix the inherit issues in the Exp system, (the recently added "Investment" bonus for upgrading defenses, anyone?)

Things will eventually be worked out. Or people will eventually build a better friends list.

I think that reworking the GUI in the launch menu would help the pub experience a lot

Play now populating a server list (like the oldschool server listing) with some quick connect options on the sides would be sufficient enough to put the best of both worlds on one screen.

Players that just want to connect and shoot could press quick connect, while others will look for familiar servers that they had a good experience on, favorite them, and frequent them.

Right now the GUI just feels clunky and the player rented servers are deeper in the menu than they should be, and not really used for much more than events and practice.

they need so seriously lower the credits for kills, and up the credits for grabs, flag Ds, kills near the flag and flagstand.

Usually the people with heaps of kills which may not be constructive CTF-wise get the highest scores, while the flag capper with no HO backing will constantly die without bringing the flag home, meaning very low scores.

If those credits were truly centered around CTF, they would actually encourage good gameplay.

And yes, 16v16 game and I see no one on flag D or flag O - happens all the time and is depressing.

Well I'm sorry, but your "kids" just trying to have fun should be in DM, Arena, or Capture and Hold game modes, game modes where DM'ing(or holding an objective) is beneficial to the team.

CTF is a TEAM-ORIENTED game, it's about working as a large unit towards a common objective. That objective is the capturing the other team's flag(and denying them the opportunity to capture yours). When large numbers of individual members of a team screw around and just do their own thing because they can get more credits whoring a generator, they are ruining the experience of their TEAM MATES who want to try to win(for that mild XP increase). So no, I will not apologize for suggesting Hirez needs to COERCE/FORCE players to play the OBJECTIVE when the only way to win the d*** game mode is to PLAY THE OBJECTIVE. Furthermore as I'm sure you're aware CREDITS DO NOT EQUAL XP.

It is not disrespectful to demand that people who opt to join a game of Capture the Flag attempt to PLAY capture the flag by performing the required tasks needed to be victorious in the game mode. There are many of them, Capping, Chasing, Flag D, Base Repair, Sniping, HO, Flag Clearing these things need to be done for a "Good" Game to occur where EVERYONE enjoys their experience, if people are whoring the generators or just DMing in midfield they are not performing these objectives and as such THEY WILL LOSE along with the 15 other people on their team.

Accolades to provide an incentive(which is a form of COERCION btw) are a possible means of doing this, and should be implemented SOONER rather than later. As it stands without Hirez doing something to FORCE(or coerce via incentives) players to play CTF like CTF in pubs many people will stop playing CTF(due to non-stop curb-stompings from teams that know how to play properly). This would be bad because CTF is what Tribes is built around. When that happens the server population(and revenue stream) will die.

Well i think actually one of the big problem is that PTH is THE CAPPING CLASS of CTF mode.
Maybe other players feel their performance and contribution is too difficult to assess and so they take less pleasure in victory.
I mean, a pathfinder who caps successfully feels like his contribution is very important to the team.
Other players can think "well, even if i do my job well, it's always the pathfinders that enjoy the most the victory, so why bother?".

I very rarely think to myself when on the losing team, "better switch to RDR/JUG etc to turn this game around" it's always SEN or PTH.

I like play with noobs.
I like kill gens.
I like tdm in gen rooms.
I like Beowulf camping and mortar enemy base all game long.
I like T:A i don give a fcuk about T1 AND T2 because they're old and dead.
I like autos and credits and don't give a fcuk about ctf wins i enjoy killing and being stupid.


I don't care you don't like it i don care you are fcukin Tribes vet if you don't like Ascend go and play T1 and T2

Why not just put the flag on top of the gens? That way they are guarded and would force people to work together to get them.... But We goota go fast. Fine ski around the map and grab the flag from who ever brings it out of the base.... But raindance will be impossible. True they'll have to change that gen room and give it a second entrance... Thoughts?
