I have no f'ing clue why they removed it and then REFUSE to put it back in. It was in the freakin' game for godsakes...now it's gone. Is it that hard to code? Jeezus.

Can anyone clue me in on what this "Targeting Laser" is that people seem to be wanting? I'm guessing it's not in reference to the laser painter you use for call-ins.

It was a targeting laser.

Bright, flourescent green, with infinite range and visiblity.

Combined with VGS menu it was critical to communication back in the day.

"Give me the flag!" Wave your laser in their face

"Acknowledged"

*Sweet matrix slow mo flag pass at 200 kph*

Basically take the Eagle pistol, put the laser painter laser on it.

It also had the sweet bonus of giving a firing point for mortars and grenade launchers.

If somebody across the map painted a point for you, and you had mortar out, you'd have a great little triangle you just had to point your crosshair at and you'd drop a round right on target.

opens up for hacks.

You could have all turrets, sensors, flag stands etc with aim points already pre-loaded in the air. Not sure anti cheats in T:A but in T:2 this became common fare.

Just ski your jugg on a route, fire 2 mortars on non upgrade assets, 3 on L1/L2, 4 on L3 and 5 on L4 (sensor takes 1 less), ski to next ski to next rinse repeat

Today you have to use the backdrop and memorize spam distances, still easy, just takes a little dedication and time.

Now, what is missing is the way to use it to communicate between team members, I can agree there. Such as pointing out a cap route or a spammer for a sentinel etc.

Here's a video showing how it worked in Tribes 2:



Basically, every teammate would get a HUD indicator showing them where they needed to shoot for their current weapon to probably-hit the marked-spot, correcting for (A) projectile curve and (B) inheritance.

In particular, this meant that a position being marked could be hit by mortars from outside line-of-sight.

We still don't know why. They never gave us a straight answer as far as i know. Apparently it was in the early alpha build and replaced with call in strikes. No idea why they think we can't have both.

Not really. It might make it easier by letting the hack-author avoid doing some math, but I wouldn't be surprised if such hacks *already* exist.
