Post WTF is up with the melee in this game
A long time ago, I used to regularly slice sandrakers up with my claw in duels. If they got too close, I would just hit the button and get some good, satisfying splashless damage. Then a path came along that tampered with melees. I figured that they had been adjusted before, and had just been toned down too far. I phased the strategy out of my play, and in time it was forgotten.

Months went by without a single melee attempt, let alone kill. Then one day, I decided to use infiltrator for generator offense. I quickly discovered that not only had it not been fixed, but the attack made no f*** sense. Hits that look like they should work miss, and horrible misses sometimes hit.

With sanic punch on, I've noticed that the blue forcy stuff appears well after the claw has passed off the screen. Even taking into account a delay between the animation and the hit, I've still only been able to score hits on stationary targets, or with repeated attacks in enclosed spaces. Anybody care to explain to me how the hell this works?

Does it have a delay? How big is the hitbox? Does lag balls up it's accuracy? Does it have any other strange and illogical nuances?

And most importantly, is it just me, or are the mechanics super clunky and hard to figure out?

The devs have acknowledged the problem with the melee being delayed and said they would fix it but when they will is a current situation in question.

In order, yes, about three Pathfinder torsos in a 180 degree cone, absolutely, yes, and yes.

Step one: Go into Target Practice
Step two: Melee bots over and over testing out the range, arc, delay and feel
Step three: Try to imagine what effect a normal latency delay will have ontop of what you've found in Target Pratice

Congratulations, you now know how melee works and how to use it.

You need to keep two things in mind:

1) The animation is false, you hit about half a second after you press the button
2) The swing arc isn't very large, if an enemy is moving his hitbox is going to be off position due to how lag works in this game, you'll need to figure out where it is on top of the firing delay


In other words, barely worth your time meleeing things, just shoot them, atleast if you miss that you won't be right infront of them.
