Post A new gametype is needed - Simple CTF
After pubbing the game for a bit and watching the high level scrims by Area 51 and such I've come to the conclusion the game needs a simplified CTF gametype - a spiritual successor to LT (which was all light armors)

Configuration of gametype:
1. No vehicles
2. All loadouts available (including heavys)
3. No base resources upgradable/destroyable
4. No deployables (mines/shields etc)
5. Competition would be 5v5, and pubs would be usual size.

Why is it needed?
1. Tribes is at its best when the flag is in motion.
Right now all we see are routeless grabs and the horrible practice of flag punting, which is the most unaesthetic technique to ever sour the tribes community. No competitive junkie wants to watch a match of people pushing the flag home. It isn't interesting in the slightest, and I doubt any competitive community based on similar flag scrounging practices will ever become popular or maintain its popularity.
2. The deployables and vehicles prevent route-based grabs.
A key note to observe is that even in the fun madness melee of TDM pubs, the flag is always an exciting focal point even at 16x16 people. A simple CTF would keep the flags in constant play in a competitive setting since by design it will be usually 2 cappers, 1 lo, and 2 d of some sort. Everyone seems to love a good TDM pub btw, I believe its simplicity is a big part of its success.
3. Simple CTF is true to gamer instincts - Easy to Learn, Hard to Master
Right now in CTF pubs there is a lot of running around. Most gamers from other games realize they should be doing something, so they do what they know - kill people with guns they have available to them and reason they'll figure out the game later. The problem is this attitude (which is natural and expected) sours the game for anyone who actually HAS mastered the complete CTF game. To understand when to upgrade base assets and when to get vehicles and when to double capper etc etc etc becomes a multiplication most find a headache. True Tribes CTF is Hard To Learn Hard to Master, unlike a game like CS which is more like what I'm describing.
4. Simple CTF is competition friendly and e-sport friendly
Flags in motion give the shoutcasters a lot to jabber about, and everyone loves a few heroes. Cappers can focus on speed knowing that reasonable clearing will take place (they might even be able to self clear). Expert duelers and chasers will also see their profile rise in the community, and see their skills in aiming pay off bigtime.
5. 5v5 is easy to field and manage
6. Given all the pieces are already there, I see this as easy to implement from the HiRez perspective. Low risk, high reward if anything.

I think it could be rebranded anything you want it to be - the name Simple CTF is just a working title to describe it.

I think other points could be made, that base defense is tedious for most people, or that many people are tired of seeing shrikes simply dominate gameplay, but they kind of speak for themselves. I believe a Simple CTF option will benefit to a large incoming and existing tribes populace, and should be implemented.

One point I have to point out here:

"Flag-Punting" is the ugliest, most unaestetic, girlish and sportsmen-unlike thing I've ever seen in Tribes history, coming from the 1998 scene to now. The flag itself with its flubber jump behavior is already utterly disgusting for gameplay but the punting things carries the decade old Tribes CTF spirit to grave.

This was called LT in previous games, but it was locked to 1 balanced class so everyone was on a level playing field. LT was the purest form of the game IMO and it always boiled down to skill vs skill, not who had the stronger weapon.

Would love to see hi-rez allow people to make custom loadouts on custom servers. As long as people had the weapons unlocked, they would be allowed to participate. LT class loadout like -

Medium armor
Soldier Spinfusor
Soldier Assault Rifle
Raider Grenade Launcher
Soldier Greandes
Energy Recharge Pack

No Perks
No health regen

No regen would be kind of stupid without something like a healing tool, though.

I think you could do everything proposed for this mode using custom servers (once they work...), apart from the no deployables thing. I like the sound of it, though inevitably you're going to get people in here shrieking "but what about the generator?!!?!"

I think that all armor types should be allowed. The best and most useful armor types will naturally rise to the top, and it lets you use all the cool weapons ascend has. I'm ok with any weapon/armor because the opposing team can choose the same combo as a structural counter.

Like the other thread highlighted, we need more flag action. Tribes is an offensive game like basketball, not a defensive game like baseball.

Now that the plasma fury is subsiding somewhat, this post could get a little love? :)

You could give it an interesting name like FireCTF or RageCTF or any other word that implies the mano a mano nature of a personnel only CTF mod.

Please weigh in if you read the post!

I don't get it. Reading the ruleset, I'm basically seeing "no vehicles, no upgrades, deployable classes disadvantaged." Is there something else here that I'm missing?

As to flag punting, it may be unaesthetic now most of the time, but seeing and doing long-range flag passes are just as exciting to me as long range spinfusor mid-airs...

Simple CTF, maybe you want to limit the whole thing to just 5v5 Path, Soldier and Juggies.
All equipment within those classes allowed. Its still gonna be a pita to retrieve the flag from any runner.

I dont know.
