Post Saber Launcher Solution: Variable Lock-On Time
Why not have lock-on time be a function of distance (between the DMB and the Shrike)? More specifically, the further the Shrike is away from the DMB, the longer it takes for the saber launcher to lock-on.

This would solve two sets of problems:
1. DMBs complain that missiles are ineffective against Shrikes. Which is completely true. Assuming that the close-range lock-on time is sufficiently short, DMBs could position themselves to actually have a chance at knocking a Shrike out of the sky.

2. Shrikers complain that DMB missiles are extremely annoying. Much of this annoyance derives from the fact that if a DMB launches a missile at you from across the map, now you have to wait ten seconds hiding behind some hill. Well, with an increased lock-on timer for long-distance, the Shrike doesn't have to worry as much about someone from the opposite end of the map annoying them all day.

What do you all think?

I'll gladly switch nickname with something better if it'll be possible but, I can't stand spending gold for something like this.

DMB fires a missile at you from halfway across the map. You hide behind a will, wait ten seconds for the missile to strike the ground, and then go on your way. The missiles are easy to avoid, but doing so is annoying due to the downtime.

Only bad shrikers play this way...

Good shrikers only "shift their priorities for a short moment" when locked on 8-)

It's true. There are good Shrike pilots out there who will avoid every missile I send at them but never stray from their mission. It's kinda cool to see.

Luckily, the vast majority of Shrike pilots flip out and go running for the hills (literally).

Lockon speed could also vary by how well you track your target. For instance, if your saber launcher is dead center with your target, it will lockon faster than if your saber launcher was hovering around it.

Also, heat from jetpacks should come back to the game to determine your lockon to players. The longer you keep your jetpack on, the larger/faster the hitbox is to lockon to the player. This would also mean you can lockon to people who are on the ground but just used their jetpack but their hitbox would be smaller because the ground is hotter than the air, which means it's harder to lockon.

For simplicty sake, "heat" could be considered as how much energy you have spent. So using all of your jetpack would mean your heat bar would be at 100%.

It's an annoying mechanic. Having constant beeping while you play is annoying, yea? Knowing that some dude is literally sitting on his thumb pressing 1 button makes it more annoying.

While the suggestion sounds like an improvement, I think there need to be larger changes to the saber to fix it. There have been many threads so I won't go into the various suggested solutions.
