I've made a previous thread about exclusively Heavy Spinfusor and heavy jetpacks (which seems to be much less of an issue now), but this thread encompasses all the Brute weapons. That previous thread is this one:

First of all, I'd like to say that yes, I do main the Brute, and no, I'm not just whining about it's weapons because I can't do well -- I legitimately believe he's lacking in so many ways.


Heavy Spinfusor:

As stated in the previous thread,
- Second lowest DPS of all Spinfusors (on a HEAVY? REALLY?)
- Slowest reload time of all Spinfusors (Understandable, but compared to the Soldier's spinfusor shouldn't it make up for it in more damage?)
- Its very common to see around 0-2 Brutes in any game mode even with 16 vs. 16 players
- People generally agree that it should be at LEAST 1100 damage (instead of 980) with perhaps a splash damage upped from 700 to 750 or 800 (taken from player's posts in my thread and others)
It's a HEAVY weapon on a HEAVY class. Its supposed to strike fear into enemies, not having everyone chase you because they think you'll never kill them with it.

Heavy Bolt Launcher:
To be honest I don't know much about this weapon, but from what I've heard it doesn't do that much more damage compared to the Heavy Spinfusor.

Automatic Shotgun:
Overall the weapon is actually pretty balanced, however if you shoot anything in mid range all you're doing is 10-50 damage per shot, which is completely disregardable. All I would suggest is perhaps less damage fall-off, or slightly more damage per shot.

Nova Colt:
Just got buffed (from 180 damage to 190ish)? Woohoo... Oh, wait, it didn't really help at all. Quick reload, draw and good ammo are great, really, but now that I've used it enough, I realize it's just an impossible weapon. I'm usually very capable of scoring in the top 3 in almost every match I play yet I can't even hit with this? I'm expected to be able to hit moving targets with the perfect center of my reticule with microscopic projectile sizes? Even trying to hit heavy classes with it is a total stress and even when I put all my effort into trying to land as many hits as I can I'm just wasting my ammo. What I suggest is that the projectile size be upped to, maybe double the size of a Chaingun bullet, or, the same size? If that's the only thing that's adjusted I think it could actually start seeming useful. It really hurts when you grind for days and days to find out your 75000 XP was wasted.

If you think I've left anything out or have any comments to make, please do. I'll admit, I'd like this thread to actually be SEEN be the developers... Hopefully they have or will consider adjustments to the Brute's weapons, which I've been waiting for for too long.

tl;dr

Brute is GARBAGE. I've never unlocked it. I've unlocked every other class.

They've never given me a reason to unlock Brute. I consider it unplayable, even in pubs. Except maybe as a joke, like that time before the last major patch when the entire other team went Brute with shield pack.

Yea, they sure told our generator what was up that day.

But we won by capping flags of course.

The HBL is a doombringer weapon. It is slightly worse than the heavy spinfusor, but it fills a fairly important niche for them.

Auto shotty is generally nothing amazing, could do with less falloff and normalised spread, but so could all shotguns. The HSF is definitely in need of a buff.

Having used the heavy bolt launcher for a very long time, I don't think it's screaming for a buff but I'd much enjoy the projectile speeds to be increased to match the pathers bolt launcher, as the damage and fire rate is the exact same as the HSF. The difference is that the DMB has a lot going for him other than just the strength of his weapons.

I only just started playing brute again after the buff to the HSF speeds and while the class ain't great, it does work as a class. It just needs small buffs all around.

See, I'm actually capable of doing well with it, but I know regardless that it's just so behind almost every other class, every other heavy, in DPS, etc.

Ah, no wonder I knew so little about it. I'll fix that now.


This class just really needs something that says "THIS IS THIS CLASSES SPECIALTY -- THIS IS THE REASON WHY YOU WANT TO UNLOCK THIS!", when all it has is a worse spinfusor and near-useless secondary guns.

I've been maining Brute recently and I have been having a lot of fun. I've come to realise one small fact about myself; the more I play Brute, the better I get at the other classes too (except Sentinal).

I find a LOT of other players underestimate Brute so I get a lot more 1-on-1 fights and since Brute struggles in VITAL areas I find I'm getting better at the game across the board, by way of handicap.

Well that's exactly it -- It's essentially one of the only reasons the Brute DOES work, because it's just underestimated by basically every class and player. How ironic that is, that it lacks so much it ends up being the one thing letting it compete. I've gotten many rampages (10 kills in a row) exclusively on players skiing up to me for a 1 on 1 and me creaming them... Of course, if they were more careful I would probably be the one dieing, seeing as regardless I'm at the disadvantage.

I'm embarrassed for you when I see you people playing Brute. I feel like I'm beating up a retarded 6 year old when I kill you, because you're apparently too dumb to pick a better class :(.

It's really hard for me to decide -- first of all, any other class I want to try I need a good 10000 or more XP just to unlock, and then the locked weapons it has are 60000+ XP. Second, I'm afraid to get used to another class knowing that it could be buffed into overpoweredness or nerfed out of interest. Third, there's multiple classes that just appear too nooby for my tastes; Technician, Pathfinder, Infiltrator, maybe some more... I want to actually feel good about doing well, not just winning with what everyone else can win with.

Brute is the versatile heavy I wanted to play since the start. However, jugger works just as well. Extra energy isn't very important when you have potential energy and a regen pack, the MKD isn't much worse than the HSF and has a faster fire rate and to top it all off I can bombard if I need to. The brutes secondaries may be hitscan, but they're fairly weak for heavy class weapons and a larger energy pool doesn't mean s*** when the regen is so bad.

I want to love the brute. I really do. But everything about it feels like its been dulled down to keep it from ever being considered too strong.
