I wasn't really expecting the physics to get fixed/modified before the game is released, but watching this YouTube clip I was wondering, Duke, how hard would it be to implement various physics parameters (e.g., air drag, gravity, skiing friction, velocity speed cap...) as Custom Server settings? Add a new tab along Time Settings, Score Settings, Player Settings and call it Physics Settings.
That would give total freedom to all of the people that are claiming that the game is currently broken to modify the game.
Exposing these parameters will transform the game the same way T2C transformed T2.

I can't really answer those questions.

I will forward it along, though. I will say that I've heard many discussions related to exactly what you're asking.

If I understand correctly, T2c has partial inheritance on some weapons as well as some jetpack speed caps, both of which are unintuitive. I would rather have 100% inheritance and no jetpack speed caps (drag can accomplish the same thing in an intuitive way). That is why I do not want to just reproduce T2c.

Read back a bit, it does cap horizontal jet thrust, but the thrust doesn't magically disappear, it just gets redirected upward.

As opposed to T:A, where jetting away from your direction of movement makes you rise faster.

Yes, and I would prefer something more realistic/intuitive that would achieve a similar effect on gameplay. Air drag.

No reason a guy with a jetpack shouldn't be able to direct it horizontally if he wants to.

T:A doesn't have to mimic T2c physics. There is room to improve and make a better game.

I make a lot of posts pointing out how T:A is not like T2c, but I want to be clear that I don't necessarily just want T2c physics back. I want something intuitive and fun, and I think a mostly realistic physics model would fit that bill just fine.

You can easily modify T2c to do this as I described here. You can even change maxJetHorizontalPercentage to 1 to make directed jetting purely horizontal. I think you'll find that it doesn't feel as good as you'd expect. The main issue is that you can speed up too much just by jetting horizontally. Adding drag only decreases overall speeds. What you really want is to require skiing or disk jumping to go fast, which is exactly what T1/T2c's special jetting adjustment does.

Just to clarify: is the goal to make this like T1/T2, or to make intuitive, realistic, and fun physics?

These are actually the same goals :P
