A patch is planned to be deployed on Thursday, December 6, 2012. The notes are below.

Major Highlights

Owners of Custom Servers can now ban individual weapons or perks on their server. Under Gameplay Settings, use the Ban Equipment menu option.

Improved memory usage and management. Some users with 32-bit operating systems were crashing after running out of memory, which should now be resolved.

Added a safe mode option which runs the game with default settings and lowest texture quality. To access safe mode, open the Tribes: Ascend Launcher, click the settings icon, and enable “run game in safe mode.”

Added a system to adjust core player physics values on Custom Servers, and in local roaming maps. This system is designed to give control to advanced players who want to tweak player movement variables. We will work with the community to organize a series of presets that can be applied to custom servers and focused playtests experimenting with physics changes. Weapon/Balance Items


Fixed an issue where the Brute’s Light Sticky Grenade would not explode if the grenade was primed when the owning player died.

Increased Sentinel’s Drop Jammer radius by 50%.

Reduced Raider’s White Out grenade radius by 10%.

Reduced Technician’s TCNG Quick-Fuse damage by 12.5% and radius by 4%.

Reduced Technician’s TCNG damage by 10% and radius by 6%.

Reduced Infiltrator’s Sticky XL damage by 20% and radius by 14%.

Reduced Infiltrator’s Sticky Grenade damage by 16% and radius by 16%.

Reduced duration of Brute’s Fractal Grenade and Extended Fractal both by 1s. Reduced knockback on each individual beam substantially.

Change the time between shots on Infiltrator’s Jackal from .25s to .35s.

Reduced Brute’s Plasma Cannon hit-box size by 28% and reduced starting clip size from 10 to 8.

Reduced Raider’s Plasma Gun hit-box size by 28% and reduced starting clip size from 10 to 6.

Reduced Raider’s NJ5 SMG damage by 10% to be more in line with other Raider SMG options.

Reduced Doombringer’s Mine detonation range by 10%.

Reduced Soldier’s Short-Fuse Frag damage by 20% and radius by 16%.

Reduced Soldier’s Grenade XL damage by 9%.

Reduced Soldier's AP Grenade damage by roughly 8% and radius by 4%.

Reduced range of the Sonic Punch perk by 36%.

Increased radius of Raider’s Jammer Pack by 42%.

Increased damage falloff on Sentinel’s SAP20 and Phase Rifle to be more similar to BXT1. (This is a nerf).

Decreased damage on Pathfinder’s Holdout Shotgun by roughly 5%.

Increased falloff on Pathfinder’s Shotgun and Holdout Shotgun by 10% (a nerf).

Increased falloff on Brute’s Automatic Shotgun and The Hammer by 10% (a nerf).


Additional Items


Fixed a bug where players could launch themselves off a vehicle by a collision exploit.

Added the ability to filter the server browser list by ruleset (Official and Custom right now)

Looking forward to the balance changes. The nerfs to the Brute's plasma cannon intrigue me, but I'll reserve judgement for now. Especially happy to see the nerf to the SAP20.

Just want to note here that every time you developer folks make a patch, or do dev discussion, or anything really, it renews my interest in the game. Even if you're not adding "content" or weapons or whatever. It means you still care, and as a result I still care.

Looking forward to these changes.

Great work with the additional server functionality, and not much to comment on regarding the balance adjustments seeing as a truckload of nerfs isn't exactly that exci-

Whoa whoa whoa, excuse me?

A Brute shotgun nerf? Is this a joke? It's already much less used than his other secondary weapon counterparts, along with already having short range.

Plasma Cannon hitbox reduction? Honestly, at first I actually agreed with this, then I realized it's a heavy class that is allowed to have large projectile weapons. Like clip size even mattered, too, yet apparently it needs a nerf or something.

Oh, look, yet another "please the whining rank 1-10s" blanket nerf to an already situational, not-overpowered grenade. Come ON people, it's not that hard to avoid. I don't care what you are, or what you're doing, or what gamemode you're playing, Fractals are pretty competent-player proof for the most part, going off my own experience and observing how enemies behave with them. It's irritating knowing horrible players dictate how balance adjustments are done. Is 1 second going to really make a difference? Not necessarily, but this doesn't look like the end of unneeded Fractal nerfs seeing as they've been nerfed like, 4 times.

Reduced knockback? Okay, sure, maybe it was a b**** (for the people who actually get hit by Fractals lol) but doesn't this mean you could end up actually doing even more damage because you're not knocking them out of the AOE, not to mention, wasn't the whole point of Fractals to be area denial?

Don't get me wrong, though -- It's good to see there even IS balance adjustments, as the first post mentioned, it you care. Attention is no issue, and custom servers are definitely getting what they deserve, but I still question the methods of determining balancing.

A LOT of nerfs, buta Safe Mode which is great for us that still use a Laptop from time to time. Let's hope these are going to help because I don't see anything of interest really... Maybe I just need to go play Hawken for a while until something new is added.


EDIT: So Extended Fractal is now just Fractal? LOL Area denial for what?.. maybe 2 seconds now.
Hi-Rez is the new Apple of patches. "Let's lower Both Fractal Grenades by 1 second and call the old regular fractal grenade "Compact Fractal" and call the nerfed extended fractal "Fractal Classic"! It's GENIUS!"

Really? Freakin physics parameter? Not much?! Not even talking about the maps and asset shielding coming in the next patch.
